Why now?

It’s a little random to start a blog on a whim, in a time in your life where you feel like you have the least going on in…a while. This isn’t around an event, a New Year’s Resolution (despite the timing– we had planned on a bit more of an ~accelerated~ timeline, but, you know…) that will taper off until it disappears. Instead, it was a midday decision on a regular October day, that was really a culmination of things we’ve talked about since we met.

Something I love about our friendship is that Helena is a person who will dream with me, who will gladly talk in a world of hypotheticals for an hour about some magical world and life that we want to have, planning details that we unearth far too quickly, because we’ve clearly already given these fantasies a lot of thought. Both of us have discussed the fear of not being able to see everything, of having too many places we want to get to and things to try that we’ll run out of time and exit the world without seeing all of the wonders we’ve seen pictures of.

And I think that sitting in my house and going on a walk, we realized (or at least I did) that there was no reason not to do something, even if it was a teeny tiny step in writing these faraway dreams into existence. This is trying something new, it’s learning and really considering what we have and want to say, it’s finding things to do as we sit at home in what is certainly not our most favorite part of our lives thus far.

And it’s a challenge to make that not-favorite life into something with promise, with things big and small, that we have to look forward to, that remind us and everyone out there, that no matter where you are (or, a lot of time in my mind, where you are not that you’re wishing you might be), there is adventure to find. You can be jobless and in your hometown suburb, missing the independence of your college town and your own apartment, or longing for the weekend trips around Europe from your semester abroad, and still have something to share, to write home about.

So no matter where you are in this moment and whether you’re fully happy and choosing to be there, we hope you come along on this journey with us and join us in making an adventure out of tomorrow.
